Security Risk Model in Supply Chain and Transportation: The Smart Way To Secure Your Cargo and Security Cost

Time: 09:05 – 09:40

Ivca Kaiserova, Senior Manager EMEA Security & Loss Prevention, Amazon

Summary: In today’s supply chain, securing cargo effectively while managing costs is a challenging balancing act. Companies need to be constantly looking for ways to transition from ‘security as a cost center’ to ‘security as a business accelerator’. That’s the vision behind Amazon’s Senior Manager in Security & Loss Prevention Ivca Kaiserova’s presentation.

This session will start by exposing the costly decisions organisations make by following one-size-fits-all solutions or waiting for large impact incidents to occur before acting. Ivca will introduce a smarter way forward in this data-driven risk modelling exercise. By harnessing the power of data – from historical incidents to real-time intelligence – she’ll discuss how organisations can build a security ecosystem that deploys precisely calibrated security measures where they matter the most, and where they deliver return on investment through both reduced losses and enhanced brand protection.

Looking ahead, the session will also reveal how emerging technologies like AI and IoT will take this model to the next level, creating an even more resilient and cost-effective supply chain ready for tomorrow’s challenges

Speaker profile: Ivca Kaiserova is the Senior Manager in Security & Loss Prevention at Amazon, where she leads the development and implementation of security strategy for Supply Chain and Transportation across Europe, Middle East and Africa. Over her 11-year tenure with Amazon, she’s been instrumental in supporting the company’s growth by ensuring security of its people, assets and information in a complex, multinational supply chain environment, where her initial primary focus was reverse logistics. Ivca holds a Master’s degree in political science, with a specialisation in electoral systems and political marketing.

Session 8

Together for Safe Logistics: An International Cooperation to Fight Organized Crime in Transport

Time: 09:40 – 10:15

Kat Henn, Senior Intelligence Manager, UK Home Office Intelligence, & Tom Torensma, Detective Inspector, Dutch National Police Central Expertise & Operations

Summary: On face value, organised criminals frequently operate like many legitimate business models – they acquire commodities which then need to be moved in order to generate profits. The main difference is, of course, the commodity, which in the case of organised criminal networks is always an illicit good (i.e. drugs, firearms, ammunition, people, illegal timber, waste etc.).

It is therefore no surprise, that criminals need transport. Whether they choose to transport illicit goods via road, rail, sea, or air, they rely heavily on the well-established transportation networks, frequently exploiting legitimate haulage and logistics companies, counting on people’s compliance or even going as far as setting up their own transportation companies.

This is where the National Police of the Netherlands and UK Law Enforcement (Home Office Intelligence and the National Crime Agency) came together to tackle criminal interference within the haulage and logistics sector. The Dutch Transport Facilitated Organised Crime (TFOC) programme and British Keep Logistics Secure programme promote intelligence sharing, close cooperation and upskilling initiatives to tackle the threat of organised criminality. The cooperation between the two countries, initiated in 2022, has already proved extremely successful, resulting in significant seizures of tobacco, drugs and identification of tax evasion and illegal migrant smuggling schemes. The combination of the Dutch and British expertise, utilising highly effective interviewing and engagement tactics and allowing the businesses and drivers to share their knowledge with law enforcement, has created a highly effective cooperation model which is now expanding to other European countries.

Speaker profiles:

  • Kat Henn commenced in the role of Home Office Intelligence Senior Manager in April 2020. She is a dual British and Polish national.  She holds a Master’s degree in Criminology, a Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations, and a Military Academy Bachelor’s Degree in National Security Management. Kat has over 12 years of experience working for law enforcement in the UK specialising in operations and investigations relating to border criminality, crimes against children, counter terrorism and serious and organised crime. Kat has also worked for INTERPOL as the Assistant Director Illicit Markets. In her current role for UK Home Office Intelligence, Kat’s prime focus is on drugs related matters and she co-leads an international project aiming to disrupt commodity smuggling (drugs, firearms, people, illicit goods, etc.) to and from the United Kingdom.
  • Tom Torensma is a Detective Inspector with the Dutch National Police, part of the Infrastructural Division. Tom has been working with the Dutch Police since 2013 and established the national programme Transport Facilitated Organized Crime (TFOC) in January 2020. Tom holds a Bachelor’s degree in Policing and graduated from the Dutch Police Academy in 2017. In Tom’s 12 years’ policing experience, he has been part of a flexible intervention unit tackling serious organised crime. He is also project lead of the International Busses Project. Since 2020, Tom has specialised in a unique approach to fighting organised crime within the transport and logistics industry. The TFOC programme focusses on the transportation of illegal goods such as drugs, weapons, money, tobacco, illicit goods, and human trafficking.

Summary: Cyber threats are evolving rapidly, exposing individuals and businesses to new risks. This live hacking session will demonstrate real-world attacks, revealing how cybercriminals exploit vulnerabilities in everyday technology. Malicious QR codes can steal data, spread malware, and launch phishing attacks with a single scan. AI-generated fakes, including deepfake videos and AI-powered scams, make deception easier than ever, while weak wireless security allows cybercriminals to eavesdrop on traffic and gain access to sensitive information. By showcasing real attack scenarios, this session aims to raise awareness of modern cyber risks and provides practical strategies to stay secure in an increasingly digital world.

  • Lukas Sökefeld is a Cyber Security Consultant and Certified Ethical Hacker. He has been passionate about cyber security since his youth and is a cyber security researcher for the Federal Association for the protection of critical Infrastructure.

Session 10

Can All Parkings in The EU be Safe & Secure?

Time: 11:30 – 12:00

Filip-Alexandru Negreanu-Arborreanu, Deputy Head of Unit – Road Transport, European Commission

Summary: The dichotomy, between the general demand for all parkings to be safe in the future, and the current availability scarcity – combined with the issues linked to translating the cost of quality parking services into gains for the resilience and attractiveness of the EU road haulage system – represents the key problem we need a solution for. Our revamped action clearly needs increased public and private support for parkings. However, it should be based on three core pillars which are interlinked as the key components of the main change we need to achieve: more value for users. The three pillars are (1) Quick win upgrades, and an accelerated certification, (2) Connectivity and digitalisation – driver accessibility and increased attractiveness of SSTPAs, and (3) a permanent and continuous focus on wellbeing as part of the driver centric approach.

The European Commission pledges its support to the sector’s joint initiatives to increase the attractiveness of safe parkings. The wellbeing of drivers is the one key element which can ensure that the road haulage market continues to attract new talent and to reduce driver scarcity. The value offered to drivers will directly increase the resilience of the EU transport system, Filip says.

Speaker profile: Filip Negreanu-Arboreanu is Deputy Head of Unit of the Road Transport Unit of DG MOVE and is responsible for policies aiming at enhancing the single market in road transport. Previously, he held the position of Head of Cabinet for the Transport Commissioner at the European Commission, responsible for overall strategy, policy coordination, and senior management. He has also held the Deputy Head of Cabinet position and oversaw relations with the Council of Ministers and the European Parliament, the European Green Deal and the coordination of the digitalisation of transport. He joined the European Commission in December 2019.

Previously, he spent ten years as a Policy Advisor in the European Parliament, for the Chair of the Industry, Research and Energy and the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety Committees.

NETWORK LUNCH – EXHIBITION AREA

Session 11

Insurance Q&A Panel: Insurance is not a loss prevention solution. You need to step up to be resilient

Time: 13:00 – 13:45

Moderator: Björn Hartong, Global Head of RE Marine, Security & Supply Chain, Zurich Resilience Solutions

Panellists:

  • Jan Rietberg, Global Head of Marine Risk Consulting General Insurance, AIG Europe
  • Thomas Ziehn, Senior Consultant Risk Service/Crime Prevention, KA Köln.Assekuranz
  • Ian Allman,Risk Control Manager, Munich RE

Summary: Loss prevention in the logistics industry is vital as it directly influences operational efficiency, financial stability, and customer satisfaction. It involves strategies to minimise losses from theft, damage, spoilage, and misplacement of goods during transit and storage. Effective loss prevention reduces inventory shrinkage, ensuring that products reach their destinations in optimal condition and on time. This not only enhances customer trust but also helps companies comply with regulatory requirements, avoiding legal issues and fines. Additionally, minimising losses allows companies to maintain competitive pricing and improve profit margins.

Insurance companies play a critical role in supporting loss prevention efforts within the world of logistics. They provide risk assessment services, helping companies identify potential vulnerabilities in their supply chains. By offering tailored insurance policies, insurers help mitigate financial risks associated with loss events. Furthermore, insurance companies often provide resources and guidance on best practices for loss prevention, including training programmes and access to advanced technologies. In the event of a loss, insurers facilitate claims processing, ensuring that companies can recover swiftly and continue operations with minimal disruption. Overall, the collaboration between companies and insurance providers is essential for maintaining a resilient and secure supply chain.

Insurance loss prevention experts see certain risks develop and mature over time that affect supply chains of multiple industries. These risks are partly new risks and partly old risks with a new modus operandi, but both are very effective for the criminals targeting your supply chain. Insurance companies have a certain appetite for risks they want to cover and, as they learn from past experiences, they add requirements into the polices to reduce their risk. This panel discussion will bring the increase of risk, the consequences of loss, and the insurance world together and share best practices.
