At the start of 2024, TAPA EMEA members voted in a new Board of Directors – a mix of established and new faces, and all leading specialists in the field of supply chain security.

Sam Pauly

Marcel Saarloos, Regional Security Manager, HP Inc., and Chair of TAPA EMEA

Bio: Marcel is Chair of TAPA EMEA, leading the Board of Directors in support of the President & CEO of TAPA EMEA and the region’s professional team. He has previously also served on the TAPA EMEA Board with responsibility for several key functions, including as Lead of the Standards Team and the Incident Intelligence Service (IIS) Team, and is a TAPA Standards trainer. In these roles, he has supported the growth of the TAPA Standards in EMEA and helped to expand the collection of cargo crime incident data to increase intelligence available to members to enhance their loss prevention programmes. 

Aside from his voluntary work for TAPA EMEA, Marcel is a regional Supply Chain Security Manager for HP in EMEA, responsible for the security of the HP products from cradle to grave.

Gino Laios, Global Senior Manager Security Programs – Supply Chain & Manufacturing, Philip Morris International, and Vice Chair of TAPA EMEA

Bio: Gino brings a wealth of over two decades of expertise to PMI, having navigated through diverse roles in Finance, Operations, Project Management, and recently, in the realms of Sustainability, Environment, Health & Safety, and Security. As the architect of PMI’s Global Programs for Supply Chain and Manufacturing Security, he previously excelled as the Senior Manager of Security & Market Safety for regions including the EU, UK, Switzerland, and Israel. His strategic vision was instrumental in realigning the Security & Market Safety divisions with PMI’s overarching functional transformation, while also adeptly managing unprecedented situations such as the Covid pandemic and various conflicts that impacted the company’s workforce and operations.

As the “go-to” expert for supply chain and manufacturing security within PMI, Gino, alongside his team of subject matter experts (SMEs), has been the driving force behind the creation and implementation of innovative, risk-based security protocols. These protocols are meticulously designed to complement PMI’s supply chain and manufacturing evolution, ensuring optimal security measures are in place, cost-efficiency is maximised, and a seamless operational model is established, thereby significantly improving risk management and visibility. 

Björn Hartong, Global Head of RE Marine, Security & Supply Chain, Zurich Insurance, and Treasurer of TAPA EMEA

Bio: Björn is a dedicated senior professional with more than 25 years’ experience in protecting company assets and proven contribution to organisational profitability. He has contributed to supply chains of theft sensitive goods on a global level for components as well as finished goods in developed markets as well as emerging markets. His overall aim is to minimise financial negative impact using an Enterprise Supply Chain Risk & Security Management Approach and as such improve internal and external customer satisfaction.

In order to better understand and communicate with all relevant supply chain stakeholders, Björn gained knowledge in security management with an MSc in corporate security management and the globally recognised CPP (certified protection professional) of ASIS, for supply chain specialists the accreditation Certified Supply Chain Professional from ASCM (Association for Supply Chain Management) and, for general business acumen, an MBA.

The last 7 years, Bjorn has shared his expertise with a variety of customers insured via his employer Zurich Insurance but also through his active involvement in TAPA EMEA, the Supply Chain and Transportation Security Community of ASIS, as well as the loss prevention committee of IUMI (International Union of Marine Insurance).

Leonie Buthey, Senior Manager Security & Loss Prevention, A.P. Moller – Maersk 

Bio: Leonie Buthey spent over 16 years with Philip Morris International in senior security roles including Manager Security Asia and Regional Security Manage Europe & Global Manager Corporate Security. She joined Amazon in 2019, latterly as Senior Manager Security Supply Chain & Transportation in Luxembourg, and, prior to taking up her current post in March 2023, served as Regional Security Manager at Louis Vuitton in France.

Bio: Antonio has 17 years’ supply chain experience within the freight and logistics industry and was elected to the TAPA EMEA Board of Directors in February 2024 for a three-year term of office.
